Fabric Paint Rig

As some of you may know I painted on some jeans a while back and I have been wearing them almost everyday and washing them about 1 or 2 times a week, just to test them out. And you should also know I met a yoga lady at an event that wanted to try to sell some yoga pants with my drawings on them.

After a lot of testing and sampling and testing and failing and experimenting we came up with a pretty good way to draw on fabric, its not perfect in every way and I am still looking for a better way, but since I just got 6 tops and 6 bottoms to work on I have to say what the hell and jump right in and kick these out to see if yoga people are even going to like them.

So let me tell you what I came up with and maybe you good folks might have a better method or tips or something, cuz all I found was crafts for kids, it seemed like no one was doing it professionally with some hi-teck gadget.

So I got the regular Tulip Fabric Paint from Michaels and after a lot of going back and forth between Hannah and the store clerk guy we bought some squeeze bottles that are used for cake decorating but the tips fit on the Tulip bottles.

Then we went over to
Office Max to buy some mechanical pencils to use the tips to make a thinner line. Now they are not the best ones I could be using but they are the cheapest ones we could find.

So its on now, I got my set up and I got me some yoga gear and a spot and a lady to sell them, lets see what happens. I will keep you updated about my progress and when and where you can see them and buy them.

Happy B-Day Blog

Well well well its been about a year since I took that 1st blog step and went online (well September 8th was the actual day but you get my drift). I really didn’t know what was going to happen and I never thought anyone was going to even read it or care. But you folks have very been really good to me.

I wanted to give a quick “Thank You” to everyone who has been there since the beginning and to those of you who have been joining in along my ride to the top. You guys are really the ones who have kept me going. You guys are the ones who make me go out there everyday and push myself to do stuff I would normally be scared to death to do or even try. You guys are the ones who make me a better artist and a better person (and I know most of you guys are girls, I just say the word “guys” a lot, sorry). Just to check in, is
Lynne still with me? She made the 1st comment on September 22nd, which was about the same time I almost gave up, thank you Lynne, I stayed in there because of you.

I know at times like this I really get into setting goals and talking about the future and making plans for the next steps I need to take to grow my career and this time is no different. We have been through a lot to together, I mean I remember the days back on eBay when I would do nothing but complain about living in the ghetto and putting up with
crackheads, oh and having to cut the grass. Ah how the times have changed.

So on to some new goals for my blog, I am working hard on lining up the shows and it seems like I am booking bigger and bigger ones, so my 1st goal is to have a show where they put my name on the glass or wall with those black letters.

I am also doing a lot of work on stuff that’s more in the “licensing” world which I don’t have any idea about but it seems like a really cool way to make money off art. I drew up some wine labels so I can start showing people and I also started to draw on clothing too, so my 2nd goal is to learn about that and get something going.

And as always I am adding galleries to my list and even though I have had some go out of business on me, I am still hanging in there and I am still out there talking to gallery owners and I have my sights on one in Taos, New Mexico and one really good one here in Denver, which might be the place that puts my name on the glass. So 3rd goal is to get into 5 galleries outside of Texas.

I have also been messing around with paint pens and fabric paint as some of you might already know and as some of you might know from this
post I use to make a lot of acrylic paintings, well I want to try to come up with a series that uses a mix of mediums for my 4th goal.

Ok I need one more because the number 5 just sounds better then 4, I would like to start touring more and getting my art more out there, but I don’t think I’m ready for that and since I planed to be in Denver for 2 years I will have another blog b-day before I move so moving cant be a goal for this year. Hmmmm I have been thinking about teaching or speaking about why and how I make so much happen, so maybe that could work as a goal. Well there it is my goals, lets see how I do huh?

If anyone has ideas or thoughts about everything, I would love to hear them so make a comment, thank you and lets all sing together:

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you………

List Of Goals:

1. To have an art show where they put my name on the glass or wall with those black letters.

2. Learn about licensing and put it into play and get something going.

3. Get in 5 galleries outside of Texas.

4. Make a series that isn’t just pencil on paper.

5. Have some kind of class or something where I can talk to other artists about reaching their goals.

Day Of The Dead

Here are 3 new pieces I did for Day of the Dead. Of course one of them is going to my best gallery back home in San Antonio, Texas Inter Artisan.

The other two pieces are going here in Denver - I had no idea how big Day of the Dead was here.
Vain has a big show every year and as you know I love this place (all my art is still up till the end of the month and I just sold two more pieces there)
Then the last one is already at a new place called Studio 12 Gallery one of my good twitter friends told me about this place and that I should submit a piece to their Day of the Dead show, I did and I got in. Then I got an e-mail from them saying that they all liked my work and asked me to be part of their holiday show too. I might have to blog about this place more when more things happen, who knows I might end up doing a solo show there?

the only time they will all be together

Jonesy’s Art Bazaar

Well it started off like any other show, we were there way too early.

We picked out what we thought was the best table in the house, right up front by a window.

Then the other artists started coming and every one had some unique things they were selling and I have never seen so many rockabilly chicks in one room, must have been about 6 or 7.

It started out really slow, Becky the one who set the whole thing up, said that it was kind of dead and that the other shows had been bigger. It seemed like every one that was there was there to see one of the other artists, I did see a few sales go down around us.

We got a few “be backs” but we know they won't be back. One artist that was there got mad because no one was there buying her art and her art wasn’t really all that good, but you don’t get mad at the one who set up the show, what kind of low life does that? Go back to waiting tables and leave the art making to us real artists.

We ate beacon and fries and I had 2 beers, I love the food there.

Then about the time every one started packing up, we got a sale, then when about half the artists were gone we got a really big sale, then as the last artist was out the door he helped him self to a print.

And that my friends is why no matter how bad a show looks and how much you want to give up and go home, you just have to hang in there and hope for the best and some times the best happens. Well im sure we will be there next month hoping for the best.

Other Blogs About Me

I met the Bantering Blonde on twitter and she told me she liked how I was using it to get shows and sales and how I was using it to build my name here in Denver. She was really cool and nice, show her some love and check out the other things she has going on.

P.S. She’s going to teach me how to go
snowboarding since she’s crazy about it.

Oh and here’s a blog about the show at
Copper Mountain in which I drew the guitar for.

Harvest: A Community Art Show And Garden Gala

We woke up to a crisp, cool morning here in Denver, I don’t think we were ready for it, but we had to go out in it and walk over to the dentist which is a new place and will hook you up with a 50 buck gift card to Lodo‘s newest Brazilian steakhouse, check em out.

As we left the weather wasn’t any better and we even felt a few drops on our walk home and when we got to the garden where the show was going to be the weather wasn’t any better, but all the artists were still hanging up their work and each piece had a plastic bag over them so they wouldn't get wet.

I was very surprised to see so many people come out to an event where we were basically just standing in the rain and staring at plastic bags.

But
Whole Foods hooked us up!

and Breckenridge Brewery did a monster job with the beer.

So right at 4 when the show was scheduled to start so did the rain. It rained pretty much nonstop throughout the whole show and us being such prepared people, we left our umbrellas at home. Still we had a great time and met a lot of great people. We kept taking people over to our bags and lifting them up so they could see the art. Some one said it was like looking under a woman’s skirt.

It was still a very good
show and I want to thank D.U.G. Hope to see ya'll next year and hope ya'll hit your 100th garden in Denver.

Even the jazz flute guy from 16th street mall was there playing

Some of the pictures hannah took of the garden.

Bamboo Frames

Well folks once again we here at Art By Nemo are proud to say we are going a little more “green”. we are always trying to make the way we do stuff around here as easy and as fast as we can make it. So with that said we turned to bamboo frames.

Yup bamboo, remember how I use to talk about my bamboo plant at my old house back in Texas? Well its back in frame form.

Also soon as the economy starts working itself out we are going to start phasing out the smaller pieces I produce and stick to only one size, the 4”x6” in an 11”x14” frame which is at $145 right now, but goes up by about 10% every 6 months, so in 2010 they will be $160 and so on.

I have been wanting to do this for a while, to only stick with one size and make all my art that size. We wont really stop making that size for custom art orders till they are all sold off and all my galleries and shows have the bamboo frames, I figure that might take another year or so, but it will happen. So order your small art here now or never get any boo hahahahaha.......

Monthly Pictures

La Luna, taking a photo out my window right before getting ready to go to sleep

yeah "no skateboarding" but only cuz I had way too much to drink and yes I know its early

I have been taking pictures of high heels at events I go to for a show and this lady took hers off while getting a massage, they look on purpose here...

Pencil Project

Wow, never knew how hard it was to use up a pencil. I am on #93 right now and some one on Facebook asked for the 100th one signed, how cool is it that someone wants that huh?

I have been drawing a lot with fabric paint and paint pens so the pencil project is hurting but I’m still in it to win it, whatever "it" is.

Resolutions

No More Fast Food
I have been trying really hard to leave food on my plate, at least 10%. I don’t know what it is but I feel like I need to clean my plate or I offend someone, plus I feel like I have to clean my wife’s plate too.

Only One Glass Of Wine Or One Beer
Ahhhhhhhh well, I love to drink, that’s it. I am now trying to drink more water while I am drinking alcohol, so at least that, right?

Excerise
Well I am doing really good on this one. I still do all my jumping jacks and push ups and now I started walking about 5 to 10 miles every other day, depending on how my feet hold up.
