Contest for June

· Marcie Vargas
· Kelly Ann
· Blue (from myspace)
· Steve Lauman aka Buffalokid
· Daddy Bookins
· Julio B
· Oneperson
· Brain LaPan

All you guys are winners in some way or another, but here is how you really win, hee hee, you have to read this blog and know that you have to e-mail me your addresses at info@artbynemo.com.

But Brain LaPan is the real half winner this month with: “I think that all his fans in Ireland should get a free print” well since it’s not really fair since he is the only fan I have in Ireland which would mean he would get 2 prints, one for having the idea and another for being that idea. I want to change it to “the fan that lives the furthest from me gets a print” that’s easy right?

Just make a comment with the city, state, country, island and plant whatever it may be here on my blog and make sure to shoot me an e-mail with your whole mailing address at info@artbynemo.com and google will tell me in miles how far you are, this is from Denver now, not San Antonio. Ok I think we have a contest!

Swear Jar Design

Last weekend there was a big tent show just outside my building, damn right, I was pissed off, I didn’t know about it till it was too late, the deadline was in February and we didn’t even know we were going to be here at that time. I did get on the mailing list for next year.

So note to self boys and girls if there is a show that you go to and want to be part of e-mail everyone you can to be added to their mailing list, everybody has a website these days and someone knows something, believe me.

Well we walked around looking at everything and checked out how the artists were doing and what kind of work was there. There was a good mix of stuff nothing to impressive but a lot of really well made stuff. But way in the back of the last tent we saw was Swear Jar Design. He had a lot of really cool stuff, but these belt buckles made from old street signs caught my eye. At first I didn’t want to buy anything but after talking to the guy I really liked him and what he did. Hannah and I walked away thinking if it’s still there later we will get it, knowing that people do that with my work and often come back to find their piece just sold, but we hurried back to buy a belt buckle and some earrings for Hannah.

Another Cover

I did it again, remember the Current Cover I did? Well I did the 210SA cover, too! Check it out and tell me what you think. I have someone back home sending me a copy, can’t wait to see it. I am going to get it framed and hang it with the other one here in the studio so I can seem like to big dog. Now I want to do a few magazines and newspapers here in Denver then “The New Yorker”. How much stuff is one artist able to do? I want to do an absolute ad “absolute perfection”. Any who check out the 210SA cover.

Coming Up With A Plan

As I look over my new kingdom a question of “How” comes to mind, “How do I tell this city I am here and I am ready to do business”. In a town that is so filled with art this takes careful planning and being that I might only have about a year or two to do all my dirty work, I need to act fast. Like I have said in my other “starting over” blogs, I am on twitter, facebook and myspace everyday just trying to meet people here in Colorado and especially in Denver. So far I got into La Piazza which should be really cool and a lot of fun. Thousands of people walk though this event, so I just ordered about 200 business cards and 200 bigger cards that talk about the custom work I do.

I also got invited to Guitar Town in which I have to draw on a guitar (I will blog about it when I am done). First I go all crazy on a Hub Cap now a guitar, what oh what could be next? I hope a smart car or something cool like that.

I have a few meetings with people about doing some shows and hanging some art in other places, just trying to get as much art out there as fast as I can. Right now I am not really looking to make sales (but you know I will be more than happy to get some) I am just trying to introduce myself to the art scene. I am trying to get everyone I talk to up to see my studio. I made a goal for myself to get at least 5 people a week, just to look, no pressure to buy. They don’t even have to look at my art or even talk about art. So if you live in Denver come see me, I live at 1600 Glenarm Place, call for an appointment, 210-299-1599.

I want to start having little art shows here at my apartment on the last day of every month and if you want to come out
Sign Up on the Denver list. There are a few different lists to get on so choose wisely. I hope to get the first one going June 30th. Let’s see how this works. Well guys, thanks for keeping up with me, I got a few things planned but nothing worked out yet, this should be a very fun ride.

Am I high?

This altitude is getting to me. I got too drunk before we got here while watching basketball a few days ago and I think that messed me up. Then when we got into our apartment there was a gift bag with a bottle of wine in it and that didn’t help at all.

So I have been drinking a lot of water, maybe a little too much, and resting a lot. I am starting off with about 50 jumping jacks every day and about 25 push-ups, just to build it up from there. We started walking but I got so out of breath so fast, it’s going to take some getting used to but it should go away soon, someone told me 2 weeks. It’s been about 1 week already and I am up to 100 jumping jacks and a few sets of 50 push-ups and I am lifting weights for about 10 minutes every night.

So I want to start skateboarding in the early mornings one day a week at the skatepark about a mile away but I am going to need to build up to that, plus I have not skateboarded in 10 years or so. I am hoping if I go early enough there won’t be so many people and I can learn all over without running into any one. It’s a really cool place - check it out here , then maybe one day I can take on snowboarding, you know the snow and everything up here.

Well hope to have more for ya next week. I start my plan of going to meetings with galleries and putting my “starting over” plan into play, wish me luck.

Hello Denver

We made the drive in 3 days, we saw a volcano, a horse on top of a building and more highways than I care to see in such a short time. We stayed in the lower priced hotels; you know the ones with free breakfast and internet. I don’t get it… every time we stay in the fancier hotels you have to pay for those things and let’s face it most “fancier” hotels aren’t really that fancy are they?

Well we made it in about noon on Friday and it seemed like everything was ready to go except for the internet. We unpacked the stuff we brought in the car with us and Saturday the rest of our stuff got here and we unpacked everything over the weekend and were up and running for the start of the week.

I am ready to start trying to do something here, I have signed up for 3 group shows already, more about that as they are finalized. Looking out these windows here looking over the city is just amazing, so much to do here so little time. There is so much art here, almost everywhere you look there’s public art staring at you.

It seems like the people here are really friendly and will engage in conversation at anytime and anywhere. Now I’m not much of a talker, really shy in real life, but I think I could use this to my advantage. I have been looking for a new way to market myself and a new way to bring attention to the fact that I’m an artist and I have art to sell (but again that’s another blog, maybe two). I read that Denver is the 4th most walk-able city in the US, so I just might have to shape up before they ship me out (also I can see another blog right there). In closing I would like to say “I love living downtown”, now I gotta get ready because this day is waiting for no one. Thank you for hanging in there with me.

Good Bye San Antonio

I was asked at our closing by our realtor “What are you going to miss most about San Antonio?” in my smart ass fashion I said “Nothing.” Now that I have had some time to think about it, I would still say nothing, I mean come on; I live an online life and most of the people I talk to everyday I will still talk to everyday.

I lived in one hell of a ghetto and sure I’m gonna miss saying I’m a home owner, but I won’t miss all the crack-heads and hoes walking around at all hours of the night. I will never miss having to cut the grass, I repeat never miss having to cut the grass. Also I never really felt at home there, I’m not the living in a house type of person, I’m more of a building type person. We use to live in downtown SA and for some reason or another started moving farther and farther away. I do miss living downtown but I have missed that for about 5 years now.

Of course I am going to miss my family but we all have phones and text so much it’s like they’re right down the street. It might be a little harder on Hannah since she was really close with her family, but I think my mom has been wondering why it took me so long to move in the 1st place.

We did manage to go see most of the places we loved to go to and if you live in or near San Antonio you should check them out or plan a vacation to the Alamo City and go see these places while you’re here.
1. Japanese Tea Gardens
2.
Carmen's de la Calle
3.
Niki's Tokyo Inn
4.
Missions\
5.
San Antonio Riverwalk

I know there must be 100’s of things I am missing but these are the few I just had to see before we left. But miss them, like really miss them? Nah.

I tried to get a few newspapers and magazines to run a story about San Antonio’s most loved artist moving to Denver but no bites, so if they don’t care about me screw em right? Maybe that’s a little too mean, oh well. There are a few galleries in SA that show a lot of out of town artists, so maybe I will come back as one of those guys.

Introducing an Ongoing Contest

I know I have been talking about this one for a few weeks now but it’s finally here, free prints. Don’t you want free prints? Of course you do and best thing is they’re free, that’s right you don’t have to buy anything to play, well you do have to do something, you have to sell your soul to Art by NEMO. Easy enough right? All you have to do is help me market. What, you didn’t think you were getting “free” prints did you? No this is my evil plan to get you guys to do my dirty work, grassroots and word of mouth - booo hahahaha!!! No really, it’s pretty simple, every month I am going to post a blog with some crazy thing to do like make a t-shirt with “art by NEMO” or “NEMO” or you can even use my logo, I might even get really crazy and ask you to get a tattoo of one of my drawings (right, like you fine people would do that!) I just don’t know what kind of crazy things I will have for you to do, which brings me to the first contest.

As you can tell I don’t have many ideas for this, although I have been thinking about it for about a month now. So this one is going to be an ongoing contest and you can play now or play later, all you have to do is play. You can play as many times as you want and as often as you want. For the first contest which begins today - all you have to do is make a comment on this post with an idea for a contest or some crazy thing to do, and if I use yours I will blog about you, link to your blog or site (if you want me too, that is) and give you a free print and a hand written letter to prove it’s real. Who knows one day it might be worth millions!

Some of my contest ideas were:
1. To have you guys make a video singing a song about how much you love Art by NEMO in a public place.
2. Doing something like baking a cake with “NEMO” on it and taking it into the office for everyone to eat.
3. Making a sign and hanging it up somewhere outdoors with www.artbynemo.com
4. Putting an Art by Nemo bumper sticker on your car.
5. And of course wearing an Art by NEMO t-shirt somewhere cool.
As you can tell I don’t have many ideas and even less good ones, so that is why I need you.

So help me help you win free prints, post a comment with your contest idea, one idea per comment. If you have 3 ideas I want to see 3 comments. June 1st I will pick the 1st winner and the monthly contests will start. If no one has any ideas I will be forced to use one of mine and if only one person plays they will win, I just might be so happy that one person might get an original! But don’t let it come to that, please play my little game. In addition to winning print each month, each winner from each contest throughout the year will be put into a drawing for an original art piece as a Christmas gift you can keep or give to a loved one. Thank you and remember have some fun, I know I am.

P.S. - If this doesn’t make sense please post your questions here too, and I will answer them so everybody will understand. Thanks!

Hub Cap

Check out this hubcap I did for Land Fill Art , just trying to do my part you know.

I found out about this project on twitter and jumped right on it since I have always wanted to do something with hubcaps. Over and over I would always see them on the side of the roads and think there should be something I could do with them, never thought about just getting them and drawing right on them.

This is a really cool project so check out there site and make sure to check out the other hubcaps already on there and if you are an artist e-mail the guy and take part in this. Thanks.

Hey 4-Eyes!

So guess what……. I need glasses. Oh yes those perfect eye balling eyes needs help. Not too much help, the Doc said I was one point under I guess that’s 20/19 or something, I don’t know, maybe 19/20, which eye goes first? I have a little trouble seeing far out of one eye. But I passed everything else, he did see enlarged nerves or something pointing to glaucoma but since I passed every thing else he said it was ok, so no medical marijuana for me, damn, maybe next time.

So next week Friday I should be sporting nice glasses, not that I will wear them much since I don’t need them much, I got some kind of cool black frames with little sliver wires here and there, when I get them you guys will be the first to see them.

Well well well, 101 blogs what do you think? Am I getting better or worse? Let me know how I’m doing and if I am missing anything let me know and I will try it out and blog about it.
